My Story

Peter Ebben received his Master’s Degree (cum laude) in Computer Science for Technical Applications from the University of Nijmegen, The Netherlands, in 2001. He has been working in research ever since. In November 2001, he started as a Research Engineer at Telematica Instituut in Enschede, which later got renamed to Novay. He has been working there for more than 12 years, in numerous national and European projects. His main resposibility was translating research ideas into working prototypes and applications. Most of the projects were focussed on the development of mobile and context-aware applications.

Peter joined Saxion University of Applied Sciences in January 2014, first in a fulltime position as a researcher for the Ambient Intelligence research group (part of the Academy of Creative Technology). Two years later, he started combining the work for the Ambient Intelligence research group with the role of lecturer for the HBO-IT study programme (mainly teaching Software Engineering courses). At the Ambient Intelligence research group, he has been working on various large national and international projects. Example projects include the Mobile Sensing for Safety project, where a seamless indoor & outdoor tracking solution for firefighters was developed to increase operational safety, and a project on monitoring the behavior of ungulate herds for poaching detection.

In February 2023, he switched from the Ambient Intelligence research group to the Smart Mechatronics And RoboTics research group, still combining his role as a researcher with the role as lecturer for the HBO-IT programme. Current research activities include realtime systems and techniques for easy development and deployment of robotics software.
