My Story

Henk's journey through the realms of electrical and electronics engineering, academia, and industry is a narrative of continuous growth, innovation, and dedication. Born out of a passion for technology and its applications, Henk's story unfolds in the Netherlands and spans over a decade of education and professional experiences, each chapter building upon the last, crafting a career marked by expertise and versatility. The prologue of Henk's career began at the University of Twente in the Netherlands, where he embarked on his academic voyage in 2003. Over seven years, Henk immersed himself in the intricacies of electrical and electronics engineering, culminating in a Master of Science degree. This period was not just about acquiring knowledge; it was about laying a solid foundation, one that would support the ambitious structures Henk aimed to build in the future. In March 2009, Henk's journey took him beyond the Dutch borders to Spain, where he interned at Fatronik-Tecnalia. This experience was a pivotal moment, offering Henk a glimpse into the practical applications of his studies and the impact of engineering solutions on real-world problems. It was a brief but enlightening chapter, one that broadened his horizons and sharpened his focus. Returning to the University of Twente in October 2010, Henk embarked on a PhD in Electrical and Electronics Engineering, dedicating five years to advancing his expertise and contributing to the field. This period was marked by rigorous research, learning, and innovation, as Henk delved deep into complex challenges, emerging not only with a PhD but with a wealth of knowledge and a vision for his future contributions to technology. In March 2015, Henk transitioned to Saxion University of Applied Sciences, where he served as a researcher and lecturer. Over five years, he shared his knowledge with aspiring engineers, nurturing the next generation while continuing to engage in research projects. His commitment to education and research exemplified his belief in the power of knowledge transfer and continuous learning. July 2019 marked the beginning of a concurrent role as a Senior Mechatronics Research Engineer at Saxion, reflecting Henk's expanding expertise and his contributions to the field of mechatronics. This position, which he holds to this date, allows him to explore the intersection of mechanical engineering, electronics, and computing, pushing the boundaries of interdisciplinary innovation. In June 2020, Henk joined Thales, The Netherlands, as a System Engineer. For nearly four years, he applied his skills in a new context, contributing to the design, integration, and implementation of complex systems. This experience not only broadened his technical capabilities but also enriched his understanding of the diverse applications of his expertise in the industry. The latest chapter in Henk's journey began in March 2024 when he embraced the role of Data Scientist at Nedap, The Netherlands. This position represents the culmination of years of learning and experience, as Henk now harnesses the power of data to drive decisions, innovations, and solutions in an ever-evolving technological landscape. Henk's story is a testament to the power of dedication, continuous learning, and the pursuit of innovation. From the classrooms of the University of Twente to the cutting-edge projects at Nedap, Henk has navigated the world of electrical and electronics engineering with a keen eye for opportunity and a heart committed to making a difference.
