My Story
With a background in aviation technology and mechanics, coupled with several years of experience as a designer, Dion has broadened his professional horizons by establishing his own company in additive manufacturing. For a decade, he has provided consultancy on additive manufacturing applications and business processes together with practical mechanical engineering tasks, focusing primarily on utilizing additive and other modern production techniques. This experience further fueled his passion for innovation and problem-solving in the field. His passion for knowledge sharing and innovation led me to the University of Applied Sciences Saxion, where he initially engaged with both the Industrial Design and Mechatronics departments, eventually transitioning to a full-time role within the Mechatronics department. As a (Lead) mechanical engineer, his primary focus lies in designing (parts of) unmanned systems, particularly unmanned aerial robotics, driven by both his professional expertise and personal interests, as well as his background in aviation and drone flying hobby. Working alongside a diverse team of hardware, software, electrical, control, and system engineers, as well as partners from SMEs, first responders, and governmental institutes, we collectively foster innovation. In addition to his responsibilities as a mechanical engineer, he is highly valued for his contributions in brainstorming sessions, product ideation, and other creative sessions. Here, his extensive experience and practical knowledge often prove invaluable in devising feasible solutions, especially in projects characterized by tight deadlines and high manufacturability requirements."
