My Story
Dennis's journey through the realms of electrical, electronics engineering, and computer science is a tale of continuous evolution and dedication. It's a story that begins in the late 1990s, at the Saxion University of Applied Sciences in The Netherlands, where a young and ambitious Dennis embarked on an educational odyssey that would lay the foundation for his future. In 1999, Dennis took a bold step by pursuing dual bachelor's degrees in Electrical and Electronics Engineering and Computer Science, a rare and challenging feat that highlighted his determination and passion for technology. Over the next five years, he immersed himself in the complexities of circuits, software, and systems, gaining a deep understanding of the theoretical and practical aspects of his fields of study. His time at Saxion not only equipped him with the technical skills necessary for his career but also instilled in him a lifelong love for learning and innovation. Seeking to further his expertise, Dennis continued his academic pursuit at the prestigious University of Twente, where he embarked on a Master's degree in Electrical and Electronics Engineering. From 2004 to 2010, he delved deeper into the intricacies of his discipline, engaging in advanced study and research that honed his skills and expanded his knowledge. The transition from academia to the professional world began in January 2009, when Dennis joined Imotec as a Trainee/Intern. This experience, which lasted until January 2010, allowed him to apply his academic learning in a real-world context, bridging the gap between theory and practice. His dedication and talent did not go unnoticed, and upon completing his master's degree, Dennis was welcomed back to Imotec, this time as a Software and Electrical Engineer. Between February 2010 and November 2012, he contributed to various projects, showcasing his ability to innovate and solve complex engineering problems. Dennis's career took another significant step forward in May 2011 when he joined Demcon as an Embedded Software Engineer. In this role, he further specialized in developing software that interacts closely with hardware, a crucial skill in the field of mechatronics. His tenure at Demcon overlapped with his time at Imotec, demonstrating his capacity to juggle multiple responsibilities and his eagerness to immerse himself in diverse technological environments. In December 2012, Dennis embarked on a new adventure with Nexenta Systems as a Software Development Team Lead. Over nearly five years, he led his team in creating robust software solutions, drawing on his extensive engineering background and leadership abilities to drive projects to success. The culmination of Dennis's journey came in October 2017 when he returned to the academic world, this time as a Senior Researcher and Senior Lecturer in Mechatronics at Saxion University of Applied Sciences. In this role, he has been able to share his wealth of knowledge and experience with the next generation of engineers, mentoring students and conducting research that pushes the boundaries of what is possible in mechatronics. Dennis's story is one of passion, dedication, and the relentless pursuit of knowledge. From the lecture halls of Saxion to the cutting-edge laboratories of the University of Twente, and through the ranks of the tech industry, Dennis has proven himself a lifelong learner and a leader in his field. His journey reflects the essence of engineering: a never-ending quest to understand, innovate, and improve the world around us.
